Recalculating FrontPage Hyperlinks on the Server

Sometimes recalculating hyperlinks at the server level can alleviate publishing issues.

Extreme caution should be exercised when performing the following operation. We strongly recommend trying all other techniques before using this method. If you have to perform this operation please only perform a "recalculate hyperlinks".

Note:  FrontPage 98 was used to create the example below, however, the same procedure may be performed in FrontPage 2000 and 2002.  Simply open your web using the standard open web procedure for FrontPage 2000 or 2002.

  1. Select "Open FrontPage Web" from the file menu. Then select the "More Webs..." button from the "Getting Started" dialog. The following window should appear:

recalculate.GIF (4687 bytes)

  1. Type your domain name in the Select a Web Server or disk location field and click Ok
  2. Enter your User ID and Password and click Ok.Your web will open in FrontPage.
  3. Select "Recalculate Hyperlinks..." from the "Tools" menu. This operation can take from 20 seconds to a few minutes.
  4. When the re-calculation has been completed, please close the web immediately.

Before viewing your page, make sure you have cleared the cache of your browser. In Internet Explorer, make sure the cache setting is on "Check for newer versions of stored pages:" at "Every visit to page".
