STAR DREK

"What would you have us do, put pink triangles on them? Have them sashay down corridors?" So said Richard Arnold, publicity flak for Parmount Studios, at Boston's February Star Trek convention. These "sensitive" observations were in response to complaints that there are no gays or lesbians in the 24th century -- at least as portrayed on Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Star Trek has a long history of attacking racism and sexism. Tell the producers if the really want to go where no one has gone before, they should have the courage to challenge homophobia, too. Beaming us portrayals of proudly out lesbians and gays would certainly set our phasers to stun.
