The Magnetic Scrolls Gallery is a classic gaming archive devoted to the works of British adventure company Magnetic Scrolls, which produced some of the most memorable illustrated text adventures in gaming history. In the lost world of the text adventure, the name Magnetic Scrolls stands for superior story telling, great humor, brilliant puzzles, a parser that rivaled Infocom's, and stunning, hand-drawn pictures whose quality was sensational at the time. These unique pieces of art do not deserve to fade away on old floppy disks or to be locked up in emulator images.

This site aims to build and preserve a digital record of the magnetic scrolls games: code, manuals, 'feelies' and boxes, and to make that information publicly available.

Since Magnetic Scrolls does not exist any more, their games have been sold out for years and no reissues are planed, MS can safely be characterized as 'commercially dead'. I therefore believe that this site is covered by the fair use exemption to copyrigt law. Its purpose and character of use is educational, and it is non-profit. It cannot adversely affect the Magnetic Scrolls bottom line, or that of any other company.

If you have suggestions for improvement, or have something to contribute (such as good-quality, hi-res scans of the Myth box), please write an e-mail or leave a message in the guestbook.

Technicalities

This site was created 8/21/1996, 22:47 GMT, as a humble Magnetic Scrolls screenshots page.

Last modification took place March 17, 2001.

"The Pawn", "The Guild of Thieves", "Jinxter", "Corruption" and "Fish!" are copyright Magnetic Scrolls Ltd. 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988.

The Magnetic Scrolls copyright is or has been associated with the following names: Rainbird, Firebird, British Telecom, Virgin Games and Micropose. Last thing I heard is that it is now back with the original authors.
