Three-day event at Los Angeles Airport Hilton Aug. 8-10 expected to draw 2,500 fans and 60 celebrities and guest speakers.

LOS ANGELES -- More than 60 celebrities and thousands of fans of Star Trke, Babylon 5 and many other TV shows and feature films will gather the weekend of Aug. 8-10 at the Los Angeles Airport Hilton for the world's largest science fiction and fantasy convention (largest in terms of number of actor guests). Names WILLIAM CAMPBELL'S FANTASTICON, the three-day event now in its second year is presented to benefit the Motion Picture and TV Fund country home and hospital. Last year's event netted over $52,000 for the Fund.

Among those already confirmed to appear (barring professional conflicts) are legendary director and producer Roger Corman, prominent actors such as Leonard Nimoy, George Takei, Walter Koenig, Nichelle Nichols and Majel Barrett Roddenberry from Classic Trek; Rene Auberjonois and Terry Farrell from Deep Space Nine; Bruce Boxleitner, Bill Mumy and Mira Furlan from Babylon 5; Robert Picardo and Ethan Phillips from Voyager; Erin Gray and Gil Gerard from Buck Rogers; Jeremy Bulloch from Star Wars; Jonathan Harris from Lost in Space; James Morrison, Tucker Smallwood and Joel de la Fuente from Space Above and Beyond, and other well knows actors such as David Carradine, Julie Newmar and Yvonne Craig, all of whom have appeared in fantasy and science fiction films or series.

This list is too numerous to name them all, but all are donating their time to benefit the country home and hospital which provides a variety of treatments for members of the Hollywood industry.

Convention activities include on stage Q&A sessions, panels, stunt show, costume contest, a large merchandise room of scifi memorabilia and daily autograph sessions with many of the guests. A gala banquet Saturday night will include a special presentation of the Gene Roddenberry ward to producer Roger Corman and other awards to authors such as Harlan Ellison.

The convention is named for veteran actor William Campbell in recognition of his longtime commitment to raising funds for the MPTF home and to honor his devotion to Star Trek fandom (Campbell played two popular Trek villains, the "Squire of Gothos" and the klingon Koloth). Campbell resides in the Los Angeles area and is chairman of the convention.
