Piranha Bites 2004 – Volume 2

Piranha Bites
April 26, 2004

Can you believe our first week of practice is only 1 week away?!?!?  I am looking forward to seeing all of you in the water – get ready to get after it!! What’s up for this week…

Friday, April 30th 4:00 – 5:30   Stop by the Knightsbridge pool and meet our coaches for the season!! While attendance is not required, swimmers (especially ones new to swim team) are encouraged to attend.

We have several updates from our meeting with the League last weekend.  First of all, we are in Division 3 (there are seven divisions, 1 being considered the “toughest”) this year.  This is not a change for us from last year.  What has changed a little, however, is the list of teams included in our division. Our meet schedule is as follows:

                   Home                               Visitors

June 7th       Maplewood                      Piranhas

June 14th      Piranhas                          Sugar Land Sharks

June 21st      Meadows                         Piranhas

June 28th     Piranhas                          Maplewood

July 5th        Sugar Land Sharks           Piranhas

July 12th      Piranhas                          Meadows

Our Home meets will take place at the First Colony Aquatic Center, located at 4350 Austin Parkway (between Commonwealth Blvd. and Highway 6). For you veterans, you may have been around when the Aquatic Center pool was our Home pool in years past. It’s very workable and will suit our needs just fine. Maps for the other teams can be found at
www.shrsl.org and will be provided in our team directory.

Stroke Clinics – If you are a Stroke Judge, Meet Director, Starter, Board Member, or Coach, you must be qualified as a Stroke Judge. The League by-laws were amended this year to include the following requirements: A League clinic (initial, or “long” clinic) must be completed the first year of qualification and every third year following the first year. A Division clinic (refresher, or “short” clinic) must be completed each of the two years following the completion of a “long” clinic.

The required qualification clinic schedule, put in simple terms, goes like this:  long, short, short, long, short, short, etc. The clinic schedule is as follows:

You may attend any of these clinics, according to your qualification status this going into this season. The League is going to provide me with a list of previous clinic attendees, so I will email you your qualification status once I receive that list.
