A list
of questions to consider before falling for a foreigner! Follow the menu bar on the
left for specific info on getting married in France...

How comfortable are you with
changing your legal national status? (Some countries may ask you to denounce your
citizenship of birth and claim loyalty to theirs).
Where is your largest support
network located (combined friends, family, people to help out when you need it)?
Which country best supports your
shared goals for a certain quality of life (available medical facilities, schools for your
children, job availability, economic stability, religious practices)? |
What
are the laws concerning a resident alien working in each country? (Some countries require
you reside there one to two years before working, even if you are married to a citizen).
Will your wedding ceremony be
legally recognized in both countries?
Which of you is prepared to be
immersed in a foreign culture indefinitely? You may find your partner's differences
"charming", but are you prepared to live where everyone is just as
"charming", all the time?
Which of you is prepared to be
away from your family for an indefinite period of time? (Visits home may be made with good
intentions, but the reality may be that international travel is expensive and often not
possible).
Where is the climate more
comfortable to you both? (Paris in the springtime is quite different from Paris in the
fall!)
